The Restoration Process
We love old houses. In 2014 after two years of planning we embarked on a total historic restoration and renovation of our home. No. 23 had provided shelter for two centuries and like many of the original homes here in Sag Harbor it was in desperate need of attention. Without the talent of architect, Peter Wilson, or our master builder, Rogerio Fernandes none of this would have been possible.
The house was deconstructed piece by piece. Only the exterior shell, staircase and one chimney remained in place. We removed the rest, but saved every brick, stone, beam, board, door and mantle. We also salvaged as many of the original windows as was possible. Everything was restored to it's original condition and returned to it's original location. It is now an early 19th century home with a 21st century infrastructure.
All plumbing, wiring, and insulation was replaced. The main house now has four air conditioning and heating zones. All four fireplaces are open and operating. A fully hard wired fire and security system was installed with central monitoring. The pool cabana is a fully finished space with it's own heating and air conditioning zone and bathroom. The gardens, terraces and heated gunite pool are wonderful.
